Our beautiful collection from Sevya Handmade. From the Sevya website:
" "Sevya" is a Sanskrit word that means "caring through service"; caring for humanity and for the environment we live in. Sevya is dedicated to preserving the indigenous art forms and cultures of India by supporting the artisan communities who uphold these traditions.
Sevya was founded in 2002, and is the brainchild of Swami Dayananda Saraswati, a renown teacher of Vedanta who worked throughout his life to nurture a culture of dharma and caring throughout India. Sevya is proud to be affiliated with the All India Movement for Seva, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. AIM for SEVA is an integrated community development program, reaching out to rural and tribal children across 16 states in India to enable life-ready childhoods through a wide range of education initiatives. All of Sevya's fair trade products are made by artisan groups using centuries-old craft traditions, with the finest natural fibers and materials. Sevya works with artisan cooperatives throughout India to develop contemporary styles and designs that showcase their traditional and eco-friendly methods of handcraft--including hand-loom, block-printing, tie-dye, and embroidery.
Sevya's unique collection of fair trade clothing, scarves, and jewelry bring together fair trade and fashion, and each piece is truly a work of art. Our wholesale scarves can be found in museum stores, boutiques, catalogs, and fair trade stores throughout the US, Canada, and Europe.
Sevya is proud to be a member of the Fair Trade Federation and we are committed to the fair trade principles and to making beautiful garments and accessories with dignity, respect, and sustainability for people and for the planet.
"Sevya's fair trade scarves showcase the rich textile arts of India, including hand loom, block printing, tie dye (bandhani), and embroidery. Each piece is a work of art and blends classic textile crafts with contemporary designs and colors.
Our handwoven scarves are made entirely by hand, without the use of any electricity, and we draw from the traditional sari weaves such as jamdani and ikat with fresh contemporary styles. We work with artisan cooperatives throughout India to incorporate blends of cotton, silk, and wool with eco-friendly dyes and create a wide range of wraps in rich colors and textures.
Our hand tie-dyed scarves are made by women artisans in Western India using the traditional bandhani and shibori tie dye styles on pure cotton, silk, or wool. These vibrant fair trade scarves feature intricate tie dye patterns and some have delicate motifs of birds and elephants in the fine tye dye pattern.
Our block-printed scarves and shawls are made with chiffon, cotton, or wool and come in a range of sizes and colors for the season. We work with artisans in Western India who come from a long lineage of block-printers and each family has their own collection of hand-carved wooden blocks that they use for the printing. We use only eco-friendly, azo-free dyes for our block-printing.
Thank you for supporting fair trade! "
